Pergamum, the great cultural center of antiquity, is one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in Turkey.
Above the town are the ruins of the Acropolis, a library, a theatre, the Temple of Trajan and Dionysus. The ancient city, picturesquely situated with impressive view over the former 335-meter high castle hill, is one of the most visited attractions in the west coast of Turkey. In its heyday, the city was more important than the Egyptian Alexandria.
